When it came time to select a non-profit to support at our upcoming flowers and fashion event, Joshua's Heart Foundation (JHF) was a clear choice.
JHF is on a mission to stomp out world hunger and break the cycle of poverty. Founded as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization in 2005 by four-year-old Joshua Williams, his young heart couldn't understand how people in his community could be hungry, so he set out to feed and support those who struggled to make ends meet.
Since its creation, JHF has distributed more than 6 million pounds of food and countless toys, clothing, and toiletries to families in need in South Florida, Jamaica, Haiti, Costa Rica, Africa, India, and more.
With more than 5 million meals served, it might seem that JHF is well on its way to solving the hunger crisis. However, these challenging economic times have escalated the need for support to new heights, as evidenced by some disheartening recent studies.
- According to the 2022 edition of The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI), the number of people affected by hunger globally rose to 828 million in 2021, an increase of about 46 million since 2020 and 150 million since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- An estimated 45 million children under the age of five are suffering from wasting, the deadliest form of malnutrition, which increases a child's risk of death by up to 12 times. Millions more experience stunted growth and development due to a chronic lack of essential nutrients.
- With one in five children facing hunger today, there is plenty of work that remains right here in South Florida.
They cannot achieve this goal without our support.
Our founder, Macarena Luz Bianchi, is on the board of JHF, while her best friend Yoli Valdes is their Events Manager. Joshua Williams will attend Fleur-aissance = Flower Renaissance, a mix between fashion & flowers brought to you by ReOrgYou in collaboration with Luz Flora + D'Marsh Couture at Royal Flowers Group Miami. Interested sponsors or volunteers, can contact Luz Flora.
Ways to contribute: If your company would like to contribute to JHF directly with a donation, payroll enrollment program, or ongoing support, please contact 305.788.8295 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org and be sure to mention this 9/22/22 Event so they know where you learned about them.
You can also shop the Luz Flora catalog through the JHF affiliate link so they benefit and continue their important work of feeding our local under-privileged community.
